Weld joints under 1 mm at LPTS, Universidade Federal do Ceará

The LPTS, from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at UFC, develops new arc welding processes and uses a Phantom v711 to record weld joints smaller than 1 mm in diameter, on manual and robotic equipment.

Case study published by Vision Research in July 2018; our own summary, full text at the link.

Weld joints under 1 mm at LPTS, Universidade Federal do Ceará

Challenge

Monitor the quality, speed and positioning of automated welding processes in hazardous or hard-to-reach areas.

Setup

Phantom v711 coupled to robotic positioning systems and specialized laboratory software.

Result

Images of joints smaller than 1 mm that make it possible to evaluate metal transfer and arc stability in the new processes.
